What is slate?

SLATE is a fine-grained rock of sedimentary derivation, with a slight metamorphism, characterized by presenting a perfect clivage, making it possible to form big plates of few millimeters of thickness, with a solid flat surface.

It is mainly made of quartz, white mica, chlorite, feldspar, carbonate and iron oxide.

Its physical properties, such as preferential clivage, medium hardness, low porosity, high mechanic resistance, component minerals resistant to open air, etc. , allow its ample use as coating, therefore being used in varied areas of civil construction and engineering.

                           
RUSTED SLATE TILES

• It is called Rusted Slate due to its coloration characteristics, resulting from the impregnation of iron and hydroxides rust.

Dekora offers 1 cm (0,39 inches) calibrated slate, corrugated on the back part for a better adherence upon installation.

• Black Slate Tiles are available in standard sizes and thickness. Big pieces are produced, such as: 60 x 60 cm (23,62 inches), 90 x 90 cm (35,43 inches) or according to customers specifications.

• Mont Noir Slate is an exclusive product of DEKORA. It has the same proprieties as black slate, it shows a characteristic dendritic coloring, of unmatched beauty.

Mont Noir Slate Tiles are available in pattern sizes and thickness or taylor-made for the customer.
